2010 Taste of Greece Festival
The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. John The Theologian will hold its 40th Annual "Taste of Greece" Festival. Traditional Greek foods, such as moussaka, pastichio, shish kebab, spinach and cheese pies, and daily specials, along with delicious specialty desserts of baklava, kataifi and other Greek pastries are served in the Church hall. Take-out is offered for all food items. Greek wines, spirits, beer and soda are available. The huge tented outdoor grill area adds choices of gyro, souvlaki, hot dogs and hamburgers to the fabulous tastes of Greece. The very popular "Ouzeri Bar" special is grilled octopus and Ouzo. The "Kafenio" offers Greek coffee, frappes and cappuccino to go along with freshly made loukamades (honey puffs) and desserts. Enjoy evenings of Greek music and dancing, and Greek folk dances performed by The Hellenic Dancers of Tenafly. Amusement Rides and Carnival Games, for children of all ages, add to family fun. The rides open at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. A Greek "Bazaar" area features novelty boutiques, jewelry, crafts and the ever-popular White Elephant Sale. Guided tours of the Cathedral and Chapel, which feature distinctive Byzantine mosaics and iconography, are offered. A Car Raffle for a fully equipped 2011 BMW 528i will be drawn on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. Free parking is available on the church grounds and the adjacent JCC on the Palisades, with free shuttle service.
